Congratulations to Pablo, Mark, Andy, Jimmy, and John for great performances at the Tour of the Bahamas. The team won 2 out of 3 GCs – 1st in 40+, 1st in 50+, and 11th & 15th in PRO12s – awesome start of the season!
Masters 40+: Andy was 16 seconds and Pablo was 30 seconds behind the leader after the time trial; the team went on an attacking mode winning all time bonuses, but was unable to place Andy in any breakaway. With 12 miles to go on the last stage on Sunday, the leaders and pack allowed Pablo and Mark Holowesko to open a good gap turning all strategies upside down. Andy and Mark started to control the pack, allowing Pablo to win the stage by 35 seconds and clinching the GC by 5 seconds – FV’s spirit and extra degree were the talk of the event after this team effort!
Masters 50+: Mark was 3 seconds behind the leader after the time trial; we were fortunate to a have a combined field to help Mark win the circuit stage, win all time bonuses, take 2nd in the road race clinching the GC by 5 seconds!
PRO12s: Jimmy and John had impressive time trials with 6:00 and 5:54 minutes, not far off from the PRO’s best time of 5:43 this year, Dave Zabriskie’s 5:26 in 2008, and Floyd Landis’s 5:49 in 2010. The team worked well launching with 1 lap to go in the circuit race the move that brought back the breakaway and allowed Jimmy to lead out John for a phenomenal 2nd place. John and Jimmy raced a superb road race but were outnumbered 4-1 by each team, and as the raced broke up in five packs, they managed great finishes placing them 11th and 15th in the GC!
